Sandy Creek's Samson |
Samson was born a preemie on September 3, 2007 (Labor
Day)...and boy did we labor. Although his birth was an easy one, this little
guy came into the world weighing only 11.5 pounds. But, just like Samson in the stories, as soon as we shaved his hair off (for a plasma transfusion), his strength grew in leaps and bounds. Within five days, he began to slowly start nursing from his mom who never gave up hope for the little guy. The picture of him nursing was one of the most beautiful things we have ever seen. He was looking better every day (except his noticeable bald spots which almost landed him the name "Patches"). Unfortunately, rains came during the night on September 9th and caused Samson to suffer from hypothermia. A normal cria would have survived the brief showers (his sister only 3 days older than him did), but Samson with his already weak and frail body, just couldn't hold on any longer. We did everything we could to warm him and give him what he needed, but we were too late. By the time we got to the vet, he had passed away. He truly was a beautiful boy and we had great hope for him. His fleece was ever so soft and showed great promise. Because he was so beautiful, we have decided to breed Lily and Starr again for what we hope will be a happier story. Samson will be remembered forever in our hearts. |
